EMDR is a processing modality that involves both sides of the brain, right and left. I have done countless sessions with a professional therapist and have had such great results, I began including the concept in my own therapeutic times.
Bellydancing with hips right and left can act as EMDR. A slow tempo is soothing while a fast tempo can be activating. If you are very angry or upset, you can bellydance it into harmony. Pay attention to the right and left action. This is now we weave the issue through both hemispheres of our brain. This can bring us to calm as our brain processes the emotional information.
Likewise, using a hula hoop can do the same balancing of energies and processing of raw emotions.
And a final at home therapy you can use is journaling right to left naturally. Journal your frustrations, pain, or anger and for me, I make it to the other side. I get it out. And I make sure to end on a good note. Perhaps a gratitude list.
